Garlic, with the scientific name Allium sativum, is a plant belonging to the family of Asparagus, Narcissus, Cumin, and Garlic. It is a herbaceous plant and among bulbous plants, it is edible after onion in terms of global production, which is easy to store. Food consumption and it has medicine. Garlic can be cultivated in different weather conditions.

Garlic cultivation:

Weather conditions:

The growth of garlic tuber is during long days and high temperature, and as soon as the tuber is produced, the plant’s vegetable growth stops. For the highest yield of garlic tuber, sufficient vegetable growth should be done under the conditions of short days and low temperature.

Required soil:
Garlic can be planted in any type of soil, but it will perform better mainly in light soils such as sandy clay.

Planting date:

In tropical regions, it is at the end of November, and in cold and temperate regions, it is at two different times, mid-November and mid-March.

Planting garlic:

Garlic should be planted in rows manually or with a planter. The distance between the planting lines is 20 cm and the distance between the seeds on the row is between 12-15 cm. The weights are between 2-5 kg.

Watering:

Garlic is sensitive to dryness and needs proper moisture to grow. Moisture stress affects the initial growth and reproduction of onions and causes the bulbs to become smaller and produce small onions at the time of harvest. The type of soil can be effective in determining the irrigation intervals and the amount of water consumed in each period. So that in soils with a lighter texture, the irrigation period is shorter and the amount of water consumed in each period is less. While in soils with a heavier texture, the irrigation period can be increased. It should be said that reducing the irrigation cycle in heavy soils increases soil moisture and can cause the development of fungal diseases.

Fertilization:
Nutrition is one of the most important factors in garlic cultivation. For vegetative growth and garlic production, 300 kg of nitrogen fertilizer should be given to the plant in the form of vinegar. Fertilization is done three times.

First turn:

In the month of March, 100 kg of urea fertilizer, if we face a lack of rain, it is necessary to carry out irrigation.

Second round: In early April, 50 kg of micronutrient fertilizer containing iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, calcium and boron is given to the crop. If there is no rain, irrigation is needed. In the middle of April, 100 kg of the second road should be done.

Third turn:

Between 10 and 20 May, 100 kg of fertilizer and irrigation should be done.
